LTI SafeGard - QUICK REFERENCE
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
A SINGLE TYPE OF BACKUP -
-------------------------
SafeGard's database platform eliminates the need for separate
Differential, Incremental and Full Backups.
Each backup list that you create is contained on a single set
of backup diskettes (or backup file for server backup). Each
list may contain multiple versions of an individual file and
the files may appear on other lists without conflict. Space
released by changed files is reused automatically.
SafeGard is also failsafe. You can interrupt the backup process
at any time without fear of data loss. If your system crashes
during a backup, just start SafeGard as soon as your up and
running and it will complete the interrupted backup.
INTEGRATED FILE MANAGER -
-------------------------
Consistent interface for all operations makes it easy to learn.
Your backup lists are displayed as a drive you may manipulate
very much like any other drive on your system.
Restoring files or directories is just like a copy operation.
MULTIPLE FILE VERSIONS AVAILABLE IN THE SAME BACKUP LIST -
----------------------------------------------------------
Provides an effective paper trail to manage documents or entire
projects.
------------------------------------------------------------------
* OVERVIEW *
------------------------------------------------------------------
Backup -
SafeGards database architecture keeps track of all your backup
files and which diskettes they are on so all you have to do is
print your LIST NAME and DISK NUMBER on the diskettes. You may
have as many lists as you like with any selection of files even
if they are already on another list.
First open the drive that contains the files you want backed up.
To make a quick backup just click and drag to select(highlight)
the files(or directories) you want and then click on backup.
(You can also select files by using the search commands).
Alternatively build a backup list by selecting files and then
marking them to add them to the list. Macros may also be used
to select a group of files by criteria (then when new files are
created that match the criteria they will automatically be
added to that backup list). When your list is complete just
click on backup.
To update an existing list just reopen it and click on
backup to update your backup diskettes. Remember SafeGard
will reuse space on the disk set so have them ready (SafeGard
will ask you for diskettes by their number).
When you open a backup list for updating SafeGard also opens
the original drive and cross references its databases to keep
track of all the new, changed or deleted files. What you see
is a combination of all the files on your hard disk and all the
files that are currently backed up on the opened backup list.
Note the difference in title color of backup list windows and
the word <LIST> in the title.
Backup selected files - [Backup] or Alt,B. or <Action><Backup>
Mark selected files - [Mark] or Alt,m.
Place macros - highlight insertion point, Alt,M.
Start Backup or Update - [Backup] or Alt,B. or <Action><Backup>
Modify list - Mark or unmark files or directories
Add, Delete or Edit Macros.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Restore -
First open the LIST you want to restore files from. (If you
open the list for restore only it will open faster). Your
backup list appears as a virtual image of the drive that was
backed up. Note the difference in title color of list windows
and the word <LIST> in the title.
Select the files you want to restore. This may be done either
by click and drag or by searching. Then just click on restore
and the files will be placed back into the same directory they
were backed up from. (The directory tree will be recreated
automatically).
To restore files to another location, simply use the copy
command just as you would when copying between drives. Note
that if you want to CLICK AND DRAG them, you must also have the
target drive open, even if it is the same as the original
backup drive (i.e. you cannot copy to a backup list window).
To restore an older version of a file, highlight the file you
want, then open the history dialog and select the file version
you require (You must have selected multiple versions for the
file when it was originally added to your list).
Open list - [Open] or Alt,F,O.
Restore selection to original location - [Restore] or Ctrl+r.
Restore selection to another location - Click & drag
View version history of selected file - Click date field.
Restore prior version - Double click on the
desired version in the
history dialog.
